Sometimes people who are allergic to dogs still would like to be able to have one as a pet, or live with family members who want this. For these people it is important to choose a dog that doesn’t have a lot of dander and that doesn’t shed much, since shedding is one of the ways that dander gets into the air, leading the allergy sufferer to breath in the dander and start suffering from allergy symptoms. One of the dogs that is best for people with allergies is bichon frises.
However, we all know that being hypoallergenic isn’t the only factor that people look for in a dog. You need to make sure that the dog’s other characteristics also suit your lifestyle and needs. The bichon frises requires that the owner have a decent amount of time to spend with a dog since these dogs require a fair amount of grooming (regular brushing at least every other day as well as trims every two to four months depending on the style) and a daily walk, though it doesn’t need huge amounts of exercise like some dogs. This dog would do well in an apartment.
If you are getting a bichon frises that isn’t already trained, be forewarned that although this dog is smart and can learn tricks, it is notoriously difficult to house train. It might be best to crate train your dog or have a doggy door. These dogs can also be stubborn, so you need to be consistent and make sure to make it clear who is the boss and what is expected. The males tend to be easier to train than the females. They can be prone to barking and nipping, so you need to be sure to train them well so that this isn’t a problem.
Bichon frises are very social dogs, and don’t like to be left alone for long periods of time. It is best to make sure that they are well socialized so that they are comfortable with children, strangers, and other dogs. These dogs are best homes where there will be someone home during the day. If they get lonely they can start to exhibit unpleasant behaviors.
